Canton native Harold Ziegler, Jr. is a longtime friend and benefactor of Walsh University who was honored in 2013 as the recipient of the Walsh University Distinguished Service Medal at the commencement ceremony in recognition of his longstanding history of service. He also brought international recording artist and advocate Dana Scallon to campus from Ireland several times to sing and give lectures on her life story.

Ziegler has been a strong proponent of the Catholic faith. In 2019, he was selected as the Stark Catholic Elementary Schools’ Alumni of the Year honoree for his dedication and support for Catholic education. The SCESA represents all 21 Catholic parishes in Stark County (including those that formerly had schools) with the mission to”...reconnect Alumni and empower them to promote and support the value of Catholic Education."

Ziegler attended St. Peter Catholic Elementary School and is a Canton Central Catholic High School graduate. After attending John Carroll University, he went on to serve 30 years in the U.S. Army where he was Commander of the 350th Evacuation Hospital and retired as a Colonel.

Ziegler is the owner of the Stark County family-run Ziegler Tire, one of the largest independent tire dealers in the nation. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2018 and has sold Firestone tires longer than any other dealer. He is presently a member of the NAPA Institute and Legatus; both National Catholic organizations, and he is a past member of the Walsh University Board of Advisors and the Central Catholic Board of Directors. In addition, Ziegler is a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Canton.
